Love this and Alyssa’s writing!! I had a teacher in high school who did something very similar to yours. Every Friday was Poetry Open Mic Day. She’d darken the room and light candles, and we’d sit on a stool and read poetry we’d written, or found and loved, and then we’d snap like beatniks at the end. It was maybe the most fun I had in high school!

Thank you! Those teachers are the very best and make such an impact. I found mine on Facebook and messaged her last year to thank her and let her know the impact she’s had on my life.

I loved reading this! A poetry slam is such a fun idea for class. My 4th grade teacher is the one who helped me discovery poetry and writing. It's so cool that being a mother re-awakened that desire in you to create again, Alyssa.

This was so fun to read, Alyssa! My son’s 4th grade class did a very similar poetry slam last year and I loved thinking about what that might inspire in the future as I listened to them share their poetry!

I resonate with blooming as a writer once I had children. I also love looking for the beauty in the mundane.

"Writing again has felt like coming home to myself, rebirthing who I've always been and pursuing that again." I so enjoyed this interview, and this sentiment really resonated, Alyssa 💗
